Aston Martin DBS Volante (2009 - )

The much anticipated DBS Volante was unveiled as expected at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show with plans to go on sale later in 2009. Featuring the 510bhp V12 from the DBS coupled with a substantially stiffened VH chassis, the DBS Volante will be theoretically capable of 191mph. Both the 6 speed manual and 6 speed Touchtronic 2 gearboxes will be available - early pictures show a 2+2 configuration, with a new tonneau cover similar to that on the V8 Roadster. Apparently not only is the DBS Volante a faster car than the DB9 Volante, the roof also retracts 4 seconds quicker at 14 seconds - even whilst driving upto 30mph.

The Volante closely follows the coupe with carbon splitter, carbon diffuser and the powerful carbon ceramic brakes. You will notice though that the wheels are a  new 10 spoke design and I would expect these will become an option on the coupe for the 2010 model year. The show car featured an interesting colour combination of a new dark metallic red (Magma Red)  with Havana Tan leather interior.

The press launch for the DBS Volante was held during Le Mans 2009 with many of the factory demonstrators attending the AMOC reception at the Hotel de France, La Chartre-sur-le-Loir, the home to the Aston Martin race Team for much of the 1950's. The Hardly Green car is the first DBS Volante to be seen in the USA
