Details of the production V12 Vantage started
to emerge a couple of weeks prior to the publics first view at the
Geneva Salon, 2009. It has
been a little over a year since the V12 Vantage RS was first
shown and it appears faithful extremely similar to the concept. Perhaps the most
significant change, has been the dropping of the 'RS' tag following
many negative comments by owners and enthusiasts. What is most fascinating is
that the overall weight of the V12 Vantage is only 50kg heavier than the
V8 due to significant weight reduction throughout the car. Fitted with
the 510bhp
version of the V12 (equivalent to DBS spec), the Vantage is estimated to reach 190mph and
0-60 in 4.2 seconds. The deeper front carbonfibre airdam, extensive
carbonfibre bonnet louvers, extended
sill covers, carbonfibre rear diffuser and larger tail spoiler make it easy to identify the V12
over the V8, but I anticipate all that you will need is to hear the
exhaust note. The pop-up boot spoiler hasn't made it into production
although this feature is expected to appear on the One-77.
It is anticipated that the V12 Vantage
became available in the third quarter of 2009 with a basic price
in the UK of £135,000, limited to absolutely no more than 1000 examples and only
with the conventional six
speed manual
gearbox. Initially the V12 Vantage has not been available in the North America but
following a redesign of the crash structure to meet US requirements,
deliveries of 2011MY V12 Vantage will begin in October 2011.
